Iloilo Travelogue#7: Museo Iloilo

We started our city tour by visiting Museo Iloilo, the small city museum that can tell you more about the history of the province and the Ilonggos who made important contributions during WWII. They also feature different art works of local and international artists. During our visit, we were honored to see the works of  photographer Kim Komenich. He was the 1987 Pulitzer prize awardee for Spot News photography when he was assigned to cover the Philippine EDSA revolution in 1986. I have never seen the work of a Pulitzer award winner so this one has been a good treat for us. Ehem, please note that camera is not allowed inside the museum so don't expect photos from the exhibit here.

Eventhough its a small museum, it is still worthwhile to visit and it'll not cost you so much. Admission fee is very affordable. Look below ^_^

I can't believe that 25 years has already passed since People Power 1. I was only 5 years old at the time. ^_^

The tourism building is just beside it, you can drop by first at the Tourism office then proceed to check out the museum. Just make sure that you visit the Tourism office within office hours.

How we got there:
From SM Iloilo, ride jeepneys going to City proper. Kindly read the signs put up on the windshield of the jeepneys instead of the signs on the vehicle's body to avoid confusion. ^_^. From there, just ask the driver to drop you at the museum or provincial capitol building.

  1. Greetings!!!
If you don't mind I want to make some correction. The building at the background of Museo Iloilo is not the Iloilo City Hall but Iloilo Provincial Capitol. The New Iloilo City is located across Palza Libertad.
Thanks for sharing your travelogue about my beloved place. There are a lot of developments including restoration and rehabilitation going on in the City and Province of Iloilo. Try to visit Calle Real, Muelle Loney, St. Clement's Church, La Paz Church, Iloilo River Esplande and Port San Pedro the next time you come back to Iloilo.

  2. Thanks for the correction :). It's nice to know that someone is actually reading the writings here and not just looking at the pictures lol :) I'll update the "how-to-get there" section of this post. We actually visited Calle Real and Muelle Loney but have not posted about it here yet, we skipped going to Fort San Pedro due to time constraints. We went and visited the Iloilo River boardwalk but it was under construction when we were there. We would love to visit St. Clement's church and La Paz Church. Maybe someday, when we pass by Iloilo again. We missed going to Guimaras so we'll definitely be back :p

  3. If you are religious, Iloilo is a definite place to be. Don't forget to pass by Guimaras in your next tour and to visit the Trappist Monastery.

  4. Right! Guimaras is just a 15 minute ride from Ortiz, Iloilo to Jordan wharf. Try to add Guimaras to your travel plans too! They have the sweetest mangoes in the world and they have white beaches to pamper yourselves.
