Inspirational websites for homeowners

There are two things that helps builds a house; one is a very reliable, experienced and trustworthy general contractor with very skilled people under them and the second is a great design that would give them an idea of what you want to achieve in your home (inside and out). You can hire an architect to help you with the layout or house plan design or maybe an interior designer for decorating (which is usually a good choice). But if you don't have the budget to pay the professionals (like we do); know that it is plausible to do the design yourself. There are several sites in the internet that you can find helpful in getting the design and look you want for your houses. Here are some of the sites that have helped me in our journey to being homeowners.

Although we did not design the layout of the house ourselves because we bought an unfurnished home. We still find the following sites helpful for getting ideas when we had our house extended.

1. Freegreen.com - although you need to register first before being able to see their free plans and get ideas from their premium lay-out plans. Freegreen specializes in designing and building green homes (which for me is an ideal and hopefully something we can incorporate in our existing house).

2. Architectural Designs.com - also caters to thousands of houseplans and designs that will be useful to those who will be building from scratch.

3. Houzz.com - a very useful site that can give you access to several ideabooks about rooms and designs of rooms that will prove to be useful when decorating. You can also sign up to be a member and create your own ideabook that you can look back on.

4. Best house Design - another useful site to get inspiration from, just scroll down and you will be inspired by hundreds of photos and ideas about home decorating and furnishing.

5. DIY network -  this site proves to be useful to us when we want to know if the general contractor or carpenter is doing the work right. Here you can find thousands of videos that can help people like me who have little knowledge in building a home.

6. Fresh home - for those who leans towards contemporary and modern design. This is the site for you. It has lots of fresh ideas that you can adapt and revise to your liking.

7. Kitchens.com  - for those whose heart is set on his stomach :) this is the site for you, you can glidely wander to the many kitchen designs here and get inspired. The site also offers a planning tool if you want to virtually plan your dream kitchen.

It's true when they say, knowledge is power!
