Please Help: Little Mark Salazar

Brave Little Mark Salazar

With nothing to waste but time, my usual "facebook lurking" stumbled upon a picture of a child named Mark Salazar and shared with it is a link about his story.

Only 1 year and 8 months old, he was unfortunately diagnosed with Biliary Cirrhosis when he was just at his 7 months. The youngest child of Dennis V. Salazar and Maritess B. Salazar from Sampaloc, Manila. He was in and out of PGH and UST hospitals since his 1st birthday. Due to his congenital problem, the common cough and cold progresses to pnuemonia. His young body is susceptible to complications and infections, and has suffered from measles, diarrhea and sepsis.

Despite his illness, he is a lively toddler. A personality that has touched the doctors at UST who sent him well wishes upon discharge, all hoping not to see him being admitted again.A brave child needs your support, in any way you can give. One way is by helping raise funds for his liver transplant. Each shirt contributes to the PhP 2.5M he needs for this operation and his monthly check-up, blood tests and medicines.

The family was advised by Dra. Gregorio (Head of Gastro-Interology, PGH) that Mark badly needs a liver transplant as soon as possible. Mark can actually get the liver from his mother up to his 2nd cousin. The Liver Transplantation will need to be done in Taiwan at the Chang Gung Hospital and has a 97% survival rate.

Mark’s father has resigned from his job to dedicate his time to care for his youngest son while the mother is on indefinite leave from her job. They are being supported by relatives. They have done fund raisers through raffles and t-shirt sales. They have also appealed to PCSO and will be receiving financial help but it will not be enough to cover the transplant and monthly medical maintenance like check-up, blood tests and medicines.Prayers and medical/financial donations are most welcome.

These are the following medicines that Mark needs:

Propanolol (Inderal) 10mg/ tablet – 1/2 tablet twice/daily

Spirinolactone (Aldactone) 25mg/tablet – 1/2 tablet twice/daily

Prozinc 10mg/ml – 2ml once/dailyCaCo3 500mg/tablet – 1/2 tablet once/daily

Multivitamins (Clusivol Drops) – 1ml twice/daily

Ursodeoxycholic acid (Ursofak) 250mg/capsule divided into 5 ppcap – 2ppcaps every 12 hours/daily

Vitamin D (Rocaltrol) 0.25mcg/cap – 1 cap once/daily

Vit. E (Zyme E) 200iu/cap – 1 cap once daily

Vit. K (Konakion) 10mg/ml – 0.2 ml. once/daily

I was really touched by this story that I befriended Mr. Dennis Salazar, who is still up (like me) in the wee hours of morning answering my inquiries about the t-shirts that I hope to buy for me and my husband and hopefully some of my friends (and readers - if any). I really really hope they'll be able to raise the money since there's a 97% of survival for this child and the his mom and cousins are willing to be donors. My prayer tonight goes out to this family just across the Manila bay. May God bless them!
